I do have a story behind this painting, but instead of words, I leave you with this picture alone. I wonder what your interpretations would be :)

Original size: 6000x9000px; done from scratch in Photoshop with some aid from Painter. This piece was a challenge, mainly to get the technique and mood work together. It took me a LOT of time, especially to get all those little details right.

Here's a link to some closeups: [link]

Took me ages trying to find this again. The image has stuck with me for a long time. And right now, it's rather personal to me, which is why I remembered it. So I'm going to favourite it.

the wall-paint pealed back revealing the cracks riddled threw the wall. The bride lay as if dead her cold hand clutching a decaying letter. to her left is a pile of more letters, and a candle stump that burned until the wick was completely gone. to her left a cage. Every thing from the bride to the wall is covered in cobwebs. years have passed and she hasn't moved. she died when she read the letter telling her the death of her husband, her death day was to be her wedding day she died from the lose of  her love, but her body stays untouched waiting forever for her lost love.

I think she let the bird (love) free "if you love something you set it free, if it loves you it will come back"

- Her bird (love) never came back but she waits regardless...hence the webs.

I'd guess the story with this is that love is being portrayed as a cage of time. The woman (girl?) appears to represent youth (white dress, young face, etc.) with her expression/pose indicating waiting/longing. The letters she holds would be from someone, presumably a lover, that she is seperated from. The birdcage also symbolize isolation, and the cobwebs and aged background are signs of the passage of time. She is waiting in seclusion for her lover to return so that they can be together. At least, that's what I got out of this. :)

im guessing, the person she loved had to travel often, and they wrote to eachother back and forth, and the last letter she got back must've had bad news. they were going to get married, maybe the letter in her hand was the last one she ever got from him or her. she stayed in her wedding dress for him or her, to show them that she still cared and still awaits their return. the bird is gone, because either a) it died a long time ago, or b) it flew off, and never came back.

I am thinking the same! Either her lover died or abandoned her for another girl. The girl in the picture maybe long gone too, as there are many spider webs around her. The cage maybe the symbol of her imprison of heart.

For me I thought of someone who had finally let the one they love be free and let them go so that the person could be happier, but in reality that person still hasn't really let go and is waiting still, with old memories and longing for that one person to come back. It's a beautiful picture:)

trouble with anatomy..head not attached to body cobbled together ..

when you paintover a photo the lack of the knowledge of anatomy shows..

the carpet on the floor a photo.badly merged in a layer..

the hair is a givaway as dear marta's own style shows through..

again about three different styles reflecting the quality of the photorefs...

the whole figure unconvincing..the shoulders fading and blurred..could be better with a good reference of head and shoulders...

Jeez, this is so beautiful but so sad. :noes:

I think the woman died by committing suicide because she realized the person she love(d) won't be coming back (the pieces of paper).

the woman is dead, lying with some piece of paper in her hand... and the cage...
she preferred to kill herself before her own wedding as she could not imagine living with the man she was supposed to marry
in this sense she chose freedom instead of living in a cage as she would feel enslaved by the person she did not love...
my interpretation :)

I think the story is that her lover died right before her wedding, but she never was able to accept that, and she lives in a world where she thinks he was lost at sea. She sits there with old letters from him (and even a few that she wrote to him that would never be sent.) I think the scene might be that she has starved or pined herself to death with the tears still rolling out of her empty eyes. She has sat there by the window, looking for him, too concentrated to even brush away the cobwebs, waiting for him to come home.

The minute I saw this, I thought, "It's Miss Havisham!" from Great Expectations. After her lover jilted her, and she found out he was just using her for her money, she started decaying in her huge house all alone, never changing out of her wedding dress, and smashing all the clocks in her house so they stopped at 20 minutes to 9.

Much that comes to mind. The impression that her is no longer alive. But she can not definitively die, loyal to someone continues to wait. Maybe it is - a ghost bride who still clings to a letter from a loved one, overgrown with cobwebs by the window, in the decrepit manor? The picture reminded me of the song of the Russian group "Nautilus Pompilius". Called "Polina's Morning.":

Pauline's hands, like forgotten by song under the dogged needle.
Sounds are lazy and are circling like a motes over its head.
Sleepy eyes wait the one who will come in and will ignite light in them.
Morning Pauline continues hundred billion years.
And all these years I can hear the wavers breasts.
And from her breath misted glass in the windows.
And I do not regret the fact that my way is endless
In her Crystalsong bedroom - there is always light.
I know those who will be able to wait and those who, not having waited - will die.
But the with those and with other identically boring to go.
I love you for what your expectations awaits
That the never be able happen.
Fingers of Polina-like candles in the candelabra nights
Tears of Polina - have turned into an endless brook
In the Room of Polina - on the threshold hesitantly hesitates dawn
Morning of Polina continues hundred billion years.

The picture created admiration and tears. I was just on my knees before this picture ... Thank you very much for this work, for the positive emotions!
Ps: sorry for the clumsy English

She has obviously lost someone dear to her. The lifeless stare indicates that she feels completely dead inside. The letters make me think that she is clinging on to what she has left of her love and I assume that she is wearing the dress as a memento. And the spider webs in my opinion symbolize that she is forever lingering within the past because it's what she has left of what once made her feel alive.

This spectacular work... even spectacular seems understated... absolutely blown away. :)

This picture... wow! I just love it, but it's so sad. To me, I think that she had been preparing to be wed to the love of her life once he returned from fighting a war. But his return would never come and she received the dreaded news of his life ending instead. She no longer functions, the pain is now too deep and has consumed her. She now just sits and exists with nothing left of her but an withering shell filled with anguish and despair. This is so sad, but beautiful.

I, personally, see this as a young woman in love. She fell head over heels, but he was just playing games with her mind and heart. In my mind, the dress and detail makes it seem like she was ready for a wedding. But the cobwebs and such make me think she was waiting for a wedding that never happened. So, all in all, I would say she was in love, ready and waiting for her wedding, but he never showed. She waited and waited, pacing and worrying, watching for him out the window. To me, it seems as though she actually exhausted herself to death, waiting for a love that would never come.

the name of the pictue"Love" is curious. My first impression was :"something stale". Upon closer look: Looks like she is endlessly waiting for something, but did not get anything, therefore is suspended in some strange unhappy state. why is it called Love?

Beautiful piece, its so moving!

How I interpret it is.
Another mere victim of love, she waits for a lover/someone she adores to come through but he never comes. He leaves her restless and waiting. She doesn't want to let him go. She is a prisoner of love and her own emotions.

Day and Night she waits for fate, for a love so bright she awaits, but what is love? cruel it could be, for leaving her here, letters of passion seducing her feeble heart, she waits for her dearest to welcome her in his arms, day and night she waits and waits, maybe the day has come..where it is just to late...
