Ondine by dahlig Ondine by dahlig

Done originally for Imagine FX issue 100, I recently repainted quite a bit of the piece and decided it’s about time to show this one :)

Done in Photoshop from start to finish, with help of refs and peanut M&Ms. The full painting process was recorded and can be seen on that IFX 100’s DVD. And oh, if you want to check out the details, here is a FACE CLOSE UP

And about the piece itself: The task was to tackle a common subject of a “fantasy female”. Quite a challenge, since pretty much everything has already been done before within this theme. My idea to handle it was using contrasts – both in terms of depicted elements, colors, lighting etc. I love clashing opposite things so, in this regard, I consider this one a personal piece…

I had a blast working on it and hope you enjoy it too. :)

Ondine by dahlig is gentle and flowing with details that are almost tangible. Pops of color offset the soothing, glowing quality of the figure, making this image one for the ages. ( Featured by Aeirmid )

Intricate details here and I love the cloth work! It would appear she has some help on laundry day, as well! Lovely colors with an eerie somber mood, my type of art! Gorgeous work and congratulations!

Wow, this is stunning.. From the design of her dress to the flourescent flowers. I love it, great work and congrats on the DD!

It's rare that something so lovely makes me so mad.  The flowers and the hands pulling the figure down have more energy than she does.  Granted, the title is the name of a mermaid, so the figure could simply be going back to her natural element, but her expression makes me question whether she's going back of her own free will or because she's given up.

Despite the urge to shake her (I say shake, I mean smack) and yell at her to wake up and fight back, I actually do like this piece.
