The Seven Deadly Sins: ENVY by dahlig The Seven Deadly Sins: ENVY by dahlig
Ok so here it is, second from the series of Seven Deadly Sins.

VANITY can be seen here: [link] :]

The theme:

Second of the Seven Deadly Sins serie.

"Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or

Personally I think envy means much more than just a wish to have something
someone else has. To me, it means also ACTING AGAINST that person,
"revenging" in a way, trying to take the "object of our desire" away from
them, or backstabbing them in some way etc.
That is why myself I consider envy the "heaviest" sin of all seven.

- snake - as I mentioned, envy, to me, is connected with cunning and doing
something behind one's back :)

- poison ivy leaf in the frame (and the column)- maybe just a word play, but
I always connected ivy with destruction of some sort... Growing using a
different object as a "support"... Something like that ;]

- color green - i guess it needs no comment :P

Techy info:
During the last few weeks I have been going through a small "artistic
breakdown", noticing how many mistakes I make etc... So I decided to try to
work harder on my pieces from now on and develop my style... So here you go,
something more painty than before :] I hope you like it, cause I'm pretty
satisfied for now :]

Time spent: around 60 hours again, doing those leaves sucked, really!

Coming next: (most probably) LUST :]~
PS.this deviation will also be a print!

Green, the color of envy :) Interesting symbolism with the snake and the ivy...random question, was her hair meant to echo the twistiness and curviness of the snake/ivy?
letthemeatwords Featured By Owner Feb 19, 2013
Her face portrays envy perfectly, and I like the concept of the poison ivy! :D

It's probably just a really, really big coincidence, but this piece reminds me quite frankly of Loki, the Norse god and the Marvel comic book character.

Spectacular piece of work. Well done.

Sometimes, I have to admit, that I'm a victim of envy (just like I'm envious now of you drawing a beautiful pic such as this.) Another artwork model of yours that looks like she belongs on a magazine cover...Though, I'm not much of a color green fan (except when it comes to money, of course), I just love the whole serene greenish background...Nice dress, weird but cool-for-fashion hairdo and the snake...that snake just drive me CRAZY!!!...So ENVIOUS of your hands right now 'cause they can draw crazy good art such as this and if I have to be jealously obsessed just to like this depiction of envy, then GOD, please forgive me. Anyhow good artwork...More than good...INCREDIBLE!!!

^ All of this. While I wouldn't really act against someone or hurt them whenever I see someone that can draw extremely well I feel so jelly, especially if they put up something that looks amazing then say, "Lol yea, I was just sketching. Kinda embarassed its really, really crappy."
Anyway, LEGENDARY art you got thar.

You must have a load of dedication to your works if you spend 60 hours on one piece (then again, I'll spend three weeks on some writings that I never end up posting and stay up until the wee hours of the morning). This amazingly represents Envy, otherwise known as Jealously, would look. I love the hair, the face and basically everything about this. "Artistic breakdown"? I have those all the time, before posting, during posting, and definately after posting. But some say you are your worst critic. This painting reminds me... I must get back to writing after I get better ( suffering from a sprained wrist really puts a damper on things).

To sum it up, I love this and how original it is. Keep he Epicness Up!! :D

It's amazing; I love all your portrayals of the deadly sins! You make them look really distinctive and obviously their sin, while keeping most of the same features of each picture! Amazing!

Ah, Envy. The food for Revenge. Green is such a beautiful color. So sad that is is used on envious and jealous people who love doing this behind people's backs.

The simplicity of the dress gives me the chills. It's beautiful, and, as I just said, simple, but there's this empowering feeling about it. My eyes are drawn to the dress and the way the snake's tail is curled around her arm, in this seductive sort of way; almost as if it were saying, "Join me, in the flames of Envy. I promise you'll be happy with your revenge." or something like that.

Well done. The symbolism is well used, and t he green color is more than penetrating my soul. My brain is eating it up, drawn to the colors.

Nice work done here. This reminds me of Alphonse Mucha paintings from secession. This is like his advanced work (I mean it as a compliment :)
